About me
Maîstresse Philomene de Lys hails from the town of Wericq-Sud in France on the banks of the Lys River (which she is proud to say dates back to Roman times). Her family were landed baronage and merchants, which enabled her to have an expansive education for her time period (late 16th century). Philomene is a scribe by occupation and finds her delight in calligraphy and illumination. Her new occupation of organizing education among the inhabitants of her town is a calling that she is gladly following.
She is a member of the Order of the Laurel for Calligraphy and Illumination, the Order of the Pearl for the same, and as well the Order of the Golden Dolphin and Order of the Opal for service to the Kingdom. She belongs to Fait Accompli as a Peer, and is honorary to House of the Wounded Mushroom and Honey Badger Tavern.

What You Do
Philomene is a scribe for the Kingdom of Atlantia and has been actively contributing to the SCA since 2017. She is the Kingdom New Scribe’s Deputy as well as her barony’s MoAS. More recently, she has developed the War of the Wings A&S (2022-2024) and has organized classes – this last year numbered over 100 classes and over 400 students. She has been asked to do it again for 2025 and is excited to do so!
There is a joy in promoting teaching and learning and it is very near and dear to Maîstresse Philomene’s heart! Getting the week-long education up and rolling has been met with some bumps along the way, but the talent of teachers, their kindness to offer to teach, and the attendance speaks for itself…the effort is worth the reward of watching the classes occur (and getting to participate!!).
For scribal work, she most enjoys the Squashed Bug style of illumination (mka Tromp l’œil) and adding personal touches to the recipient of her art is very near and dear to her heart.
